AM 1: Big Data Hits the Road: The Ups and Downs of Modern Mobility

Magic Kingdom Ballroom 1

In-car telecommunications, travel apps, and real-time transit info provide exciting opportunities for commuters as well as businesses and government. But they also present legal, privacy, and practical questions regarding how data gets used and who benefits. Determining who controls and has a say in the growing universe of vehicle and travel data is a tricky and contentious topic. Arriving at the right answers can unlock vast mobility, safety and consumer benefits. Getting them wrong can undermine these potential advances. Join us as we explore how cars are becoming rolling, connected computers; how people are becoming data points; and how governments and businesses are tapping into new data sources to transform the future of travel.

Magic Kingdom Ballroom 2

Join us as these industry heavyweights educate us and debate this oft-misunderstood topic and potentially come to a joint resolution. Which alternative project delivery mechanisms are available in California? What are the roadblocks and are there potential solutions? Where are we really going with Design Build, Construction Manager/General Contractor (CMGC), Integrated Project Delivery and Concessions… and can we agree? Bring your questions and comments as we hear from the leading voices for and against alternative project delivery and participate in an open discussion with the panel and audience.

AM 3: The Future of Tolling and Road Pricing for California: Why It Matters

Magic Kingdom Ballroom 3

What do we want our future generations to inherit? As California expands its use of tolling and road pricing it is imperative to revisit existing tolling policies and discuss what those policies look like moving into the future. We need to ask and have answers to:

    • What are the appropriate roles and responsibilities for regional entities, the State and the private sector?
    • Does centralized toll collection and processing make sense?
    • Should Express Lane occupancy standards and toll rate setting be standardized?
    • What is the future of equity programs for low-income users?
    • How do toll revenues flow and what do they support?
    • What legislation do toll agencies need moving forward?

Join us for an interactive panel and audience discussion and help us shape California’s road pricing future.

AM 4: NFAC, CFAC and CARB – Are They Working Together?

Magic Kingdom Ballroom 4

MAP-21 mandated the formation of a National Freight Advisory Committee (NFAC) to help the U.S. Department of Transportation promote a safe, economically efficient, and environmentally sustainable freight transportation system. MAP-21 also recommended that individual states form Freight Advisory Committees, which California did in 2013 with the passage of AB 14 (Lowenthal). The California Freight Advisory Committee (CFAC) is charged with participating in the development of the California Freight Mobility Plan (CFMP). The California Air Resources Board (CARB) develops an annual Sustainable Freight Strategy that outlines the needs and steps to transform California’s freight transport system to one that is more efficient and sustainable.

How have the NFAC, CFAC and CARB been working together to benefit freight? Or have they? Will any of the recommendations be accepted? What have they been up to?

Embracing Our Transportation Future – The Next ‘GENeration’ of Business, Community & Innovation

Scott Zimmer – confirmed
Generational Expert, BridgeWorks

What do General Electric (GE), Virgin Hotels, MTV and other Fortune 500 companies have in common? They all care about succession planning and the next generation of our workforce. The theme for this year’s Summit focuses on embracing the future of transportation and uniting business, communities and innovation.

The common denominator? People.

As one of BridgeWorks’ generational experts and resident Gen Xer, Scott’s keynotes clearly illustrate the stress points between generations and provide clear solutions to encourage better understanding and collaboration across generational divides. A child of the 80s and 90s, Scott has insider knowledge into what makes his generation tick. Sandwiched between the idealistic Boomers and innovative Millennials, his Xer lens allows him to hone in on the key challenges facing each generation. Scott has keynoted and trained staff for major corporations including Virgin Hotels, General Electric and Disneyland.

BridgeWorks has been dedicated solely to the study of generational differences since its inception in 1998 and is the company who wrote the best-selling business books When Generations Collide: Who They Are. Why They Clash. How to Solve the Generational Puzzle at Work (HarperCollins) and The M-Factor (HarperBusiness).

PM 1: Expanding Transit Networks Through Last Mile Connectivity

Magic Kingdom Ballroom 1

Now is the time to deliver solutions to increase the effectiveness and build on the appeal of transit. Over the past few decades, transit in Southern California has grown tremendously,  and it continues to expand with many miles of new rail projects, rapid bus networks and carpool/ExpressLanes in the works. First and last mile linkages hold the key to a system that works and thrives. They can lead the way for a dynamic transportation network that supports a variety of modes, including even one day high-speed rail. Our speakers will provide their insights into the challenges and opportunities related to connecting future riders with Southern California’s expanding transit system.

PM 2: Mileage-Based User Fees – Facing the Fiscal Cliff and Public Opinion

Magic Kingdom Ballroom 2

Mileage-based user fees have become the most talked about solution to lagging gas tax revenues. What are the proponents saying about the realities of mileage-based user fees, privacy concerns and resistance to new taxes? Are mileage-based fees a viable solution to funding transportation projects in California? How well has this worked outside of California? What is foremost on the minds of our transportation leaders and what are they doing about this effort? Join us as we debate the realities on how we might bolster transportation funding as we face the largest transportation fiscal cliff of our generation.

PM 4: Complete Streets: Pros, Cons and Realities Tied to Limited Transportation Funding

Magic Kingdom Ballroom 4

The streets of our cities and towns are an important part of the livability of our communities.  They should be for everyone, whether young or old, motorist or bicyclist, walker or wheelchair user, bus rider or shopkeeper. How does SB 375 and the newly created state-wide Active Transportation Program play into our collective approach? What are the pros and cons and how do we balance the need for “complete streets” against the hard reality of limited transportation funding? Should that funding consider vehicle-only infrastructure to be a better use of public funds? Join us as our speakers explore both sides of the issue and bring their insights and solutions to the “complete streets” table.
